The Energy + Infrastructure Research Interest Group (RIG) invites faculty from across Grounds to its next session on Thursday February 26 at 12:30 PM. This session offers an opportunity for faculty to engage with innovative approaches and connect with colleagues interested in advancing energy resilience, infrastructure planning, and computational methods. The meeting will be held by Zoom.
The session will feature Madhav Marathe, Executive Director and Distinguished Professor of Biocomplexity, and Professor of Computer Science, who will lead a discussion on how computational modeling and AI‑enabled simulation can illuminate pathways for resilient, decarbonized, and adaptive energy systems. His work integrates large‑scale network science, behavioral modeling, and infrastructure analysis to support real‑world decision‑making in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Aparna Kishore, a PhD student whose research bridges AI, energy infrastructure, and policy constraints, will join Dr. Marathe to share emerging insights from their collaborative work. Together, they will explore how advanced modeling tools can help governments, utilities, and communities navigate uncertainty and plan for climate‑aligned energy futures.
A Research Interest Group (RIG) is a faculty‑driven community that brings colleagues together around shared themes to spark collaboration, surface new research opportunities, and build interdisciplinary connections that strengthen UVA’s collective capacity. Faculty are warmly invited to participate in the monthly discussions and help shape emerging ideas, partnerships, and projects.
