Environmental Institute Office Space

Are you affiliated with the Environmental Institute and in need of a spot on the Downtown Mall to work and/or host team meetings?

The EI’s space, located above Bebedero Restaurant on the Downtown Mall of Charlottesville, offers the following options for EI-affiliated faculty, post-docs, students, and researchers looking for space to conduct research and meetings in line with the Institute’s mission:

  1. Hoteling Desks.

There are a limited number of desks available for use that can be reserved on a daily basis. Each desk is equipped with a large monitor, mouse, and keyboard for docking a laptop or tablet. The hoteling desks are located in shared offices that may be used by another EI affiliate.

  1. The “Living Room.”

The EI’s space has a large, open area with multiple couches, chairs, and coffee tables as well as side tables that can be converted into portable desks. There is a moveable whiteboard for brainstorming sessions. The Living Room space is available without reservations, but requests for use must be made to Carrie McGowan as you will need access to the building. The Living Room can comfortably support up to 10 people at a time.

  1. A Conference Room for up to 30 people.

The front Conference Room looks out over the Downtown Mall with multiple large windows letting in natural light. All tables and chairs are movable and the room can accommodate 15 people seated at tables or 30 people without tables. There are two monitors for presentations as well as hybrid/virtual meeting capabilities. There is a podium for a presenter to use.

  1. A Meeting Room for up to 15 people.

The back Meeting Room has a board-style set up with a long table surrounded by chairs. The room can accommodate 15 people seated comfortably around the table. There are two monitors for presentations as well as hybrid/virtual meeting capabilities. There are also two whiteboards in the room for brainstorming sessions.

Please note the following:

  • The doors to the Institute’s offices on the Downtown Mall are locked at all times for security purposes. At the time of your reservation, one of the EI staff will greet you to open the door and provide full access.
  • Reservations are available for the hours the EI offices are open: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Mondays - Fridays.
  • A 24-hour notice for either a reservation or a cancellation is requested. Reservation and living room use requests must be confirmed by Carrie McGowan.
  • The EI offices are not an event space. While the Institute encourages collaboration and meetings for teams performing work adjacent to the EI mission, any catering accommodations and any clean-up are the responsibility of the party reserving the space. For a list of approved vendors, please contact Carrie McGowan.
  • The EI offices are not on UVA’s eduroam Internet system. There is independent, secure, and free WiFi available for all EI guests.
  • There are no printer or printing services available for those reserving space.
  • There is a kitchen equipped with a full fridge, a freezer, a dishwasher, a sink, limited dishes and utensils, and bar seating available for use by those reserving a space.
