A collaboration between the Environmental Institute and the Contemplative Sciences Center, the “Contemplation & Climate Ethics” project explores how human cultural and contemplative practices shape environmental ethics, ecological care, and emotional resilience. Led by professors Michael Sheehy, Matthew Seibert, and Willis Jenkins, with postdoctoral fellow Devin Zuckerman, the project includes studies that aim to address existential and emotional challenges posed by the climate crisis—such as anxiety, grief, and moral apathy—and how attentional and contemplative practices can inform ethically grounded ecological engagement and sustain hope amidst climate uncertainty.
