Climate and Health in Virginia: Investigating Underlying Causes of Climate-Related Diseases and Disparities

Climate-Related Disease Disparities

This project investigates the underlying causes of climate-related diseases and disparities in Virginia.

It aims to understand whether there are racial, ethnic, and gender differences in health responses to climate factors. Utilizing patient-level information, including data from the CDC Social Vulnerability Index, state agencies, and U.S. Census Data, the project seeks to uncover underlying factors contributing to health disparities in the face of climate challenges, such as extreme heat exposure.

The findings will inform targeted public health messaging and advance understanding of population responses to climate extremes, aiding preparation for future climate-related contingencies.
