Andres Clarens, associate director of the Environmental Institute at UVA, told NBC29 news the initiative aligns with the university’s public mission.

The UVA Environmental Institute has launched its online Virginia Climate Restoration Initiative. The website features interactive tools tracking the Commonwealth’s journey to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The institute said one of the goals of the website is to help inform environmental policy at the local and state level.

Andres Clarens, associate director of the Environmental Institute at UVA, said the initiative aligns with the university’s public mission.

“We’re a public institution, and so it’s important for us to align the research and teaching that we do with the priorities of the commonwealth,” Clarens said. “These are hard questions to answer. These approaches are not like a technical silver bullet where you say, if I invent this widget, it’s going to solve all of our problems.”
