The 2023-2024 academic year was a remarkable one for UVA's Environmental Institute. The EI funded 42 faculty during the year and, since its inception, has engaged 160 faculty from 11 schools and 49 departments, centers, and institutes at the University of Virginia.
This is collaboration for environmental solutions.
Other highlights in this report include:
- a new signature program to invest $10 million in large interdisciplinary teams that work alongside community members to co-create solutions for climate mitigation and adaptation
- the addition of nine new Climate Fellows
- the first Environmental Sustainability and Resilience Practitioner Fellow at the University of Virginia
- the launch of the Decarbonization Corps which provides students with opportunities to work with faculty mentors and external partners on solutions to reduce net carbon dioxide emissions
