UVA's Environmental Institute has relocated to a stunning new venue on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, VA. The office spaces are bathed in natural light and have been thoughtfully designed to foster an inclusive environment for the entire UVA community. Within the Institute, there is a spacious lounge, a well-equipped kitchen, reservable desks for UVA researchers, and conference rooms for discussions centered around tackling climate change challenges. Emphasizing the belief that collaborative efforts and interdisciplinary teams hold the key to solving the most urgent environmental problems, the new space has been crafted with community engagement and gatherings in mind.
However, there's one thing missing: the walls are bare! The Institute wants the community to decorate the new office space.
The EI wants to know how community members see and capture climate change (and the hope for possible solutions). The Institute wants YOU to contribute to the aesthetic of the new office space
All submissions will be considered by an independent committee, and the winning photos will hang on the walls downtown.
Throughout the summer of 2023, UVA's Environmental Institute is accepting submissions that adhere to the following guidelines:
Theme - photographs should showcase environmental issues, research or solutions to climate challenges.
Eligibility - any and all members of the UVA community including but not limited to students, staff, and faculty.
The rules are as follows:
- Maximum of two submissions per contestant.
- All submissions should be original work and fully owned by the entrant.
- Files should be 20mb or less and in JPEG, PNG, or TIFF formats.
- Final date of submission: August 22, 2023.
Send photos to environment@virginia.edu with the subject title "Photo Entry.”
Submissions will be reviewed anonymously by expert judges composed of photographers from UVA's Department of Art and the McGuffey Art Center.
The top three winners will have their photographs professionally printed and exhibited at the Environmental Institute's new offices on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, VA.
