Based on the work of the Virginia Climate Restoration Initiative, this symposium will convene to determine the next steps academic research should take to drive carbon removal in Virginia.
Leaders from industry, policy, and research will engage in a half-day conversation. After exploring the Virginia Climate Restoration Initiative’s newest discoveries, participants will explore near-term policy opportunities created by Virginia's Clean Economy Act, technical and financial scaling challenges, and carbon removal's role in industrial decarbonization. Working sessions will be held to identify high-leverage research priorities.
With a particular focus on UVA's capabilities, the event aims to forge partnerships between researchers, civil society, practitioners, and philanthropy that can position UVA as a hub for carbon removal research.
