The Energy + Infrastructure Research Interest Group (RIG) is an interdisciplinary community of UVA faculty and researchers exploring how to power, build, and connect society in a low-carbon future. This RIG brings together researchers working on a variety of issues (from what type of energy is used, to how much is needed, to how it's produced, distributed, stored, and consumed). It also considers how to design and retrofit the built environment to reduce both embodied and operational carbon emissions.

RIGs provide a structured but low-burden way to connect with colleagues, spark collaborative ideas, and shape shared research agendas. Faculty from any department or research focus are welcome. Whether the work engages directly with environmental topics or intersects in creative, unexpected ways, all are welcome to participate.

RIG sessions are held monthly on Zoom, and each meeting explores actionable outcomes like seed funding proposals, team formation, and a joint research agenda. Attendees can expect short presentations, collaborative discussions, and lightly facilitated activities designed to discover shared interests and identify opportunities for working together.

Energy + Infrastructure RIG will meet on the second Monday of every month at 3:00 pm as follows:

  • Sept 8th
  • Oct 13th
  • Nov 10th
  • Dec 8th

(Note that the same Zoom link is used for all RIG meetings.)
